AVOCENT KVM SOLUTIONS
Proximity and quantity of servers or PCs, and the number
of users accessing them are the key factors in determining
which KVM solution is best for your data centre, server
room or office.
SMALL OFFICE AND DESKTOP
The SwitchView
®
range is aimed at home and small office users
and enables you to control multiple PCs from a single keyboard,
monitor and mouse. SwitchView IC controls 2 PCs and features
integrated cables. SwitchView PC enables you to comfortably
access up to 4 PCs with a high level of video resolution.
SwitchView USB also provides access to 4PCs, and in addition
provides sharing of USB devices such as cameras, printers and
scanners. For more advanced requirements, SwitchView OSD
controls up to 8 PCs with on screen display, and SwitchView MP
supports PS/2, USB and Sun platforms.

MANAGING MULTIPLE SERVERS
AND NETWORK DEVICES
Avocent provides KVM server management solutions that
improve IT administrator productivity, while increasing
server and data centre manageability and security.
WHAT IS KVM SWITCHING?
Because it connects directly to the
keyboard, video and mouse ports on the
target server, a KVM switch provides
you with powerful BIOS-level control of
multiple servers from a single console.
(Keyboard, monitor and mouse)
KVM FEATURES
No software or hardware added to the server or target device
Available at all times from BIOS level upwards
True motherboard level access
Supports multi-platform operating systems (PS/2, Sun, USB)
Provides access for multiple users
Local and remote access to servers and network devices
BENEFITS OF KVM TECHNOLOGY
Reduced hardware requirements. As KVM switches
reduce the number of keyboards, monitors and mice required,
this not only lowers the hardware costs associated with
operating multiple racks of servers, but it also frees up valuable
physical space and reduces heat and electrical requirements
Improved access. KVM switches enable you to access
all your servers and devices from a central location, inside the
data centre or from anywhere over IP
Provide "out of band" access to servers. Because they
provide a direct connection to the keyboard, video and mouse
ports, KVM switches enable BIOS level access independent of
the server or corporate network. You can continue to manage
servers, even if the network is down
Management efficiencies and reduced costs. By
providing centralised access to ITinfrastructures, KVM
technology enables you centralise expertise, increase
response times, and reduce cost and time of travelling to
the server room
Increased data centre security. KVM technology enables
you to maintain your servers in a secure environment, but at
the same time have full access to those servers. KVM switches
also provides additional security such as password control and
detailed logging of user access to servers
MULTI-RACK DATA CENTRES
As the number of servers and users increase within the data
centre, issues such as management of multiple racks, cable
management and expansion become important. The IT manager
must also consider integration of the KVM system into the
existing UTP cable infrastructure, ease of system re-configuration
and administration of users.
The Avocent AMX
TM
Series provides unrivalled analogue
multi-user, multi-rack server access within the datacentre.
The AMX automatically compensates for any type of UTPcable.
And enables full non-blocked access to servers. It also features
simple installation and expansion via the AMIQ CAT 5
cable connector.
The AMWorks
®
administration tool provides advanced
KVM system administration tools including customised user
profiles, multi-level security and full user activity log files.
The AMX solution is ideal for environments where users and
systems reside within a centralised location, and it's full bandwidth,
optimal quality video is suitable where users are working full-time on
computers. If remote maintenance level access to the data centre is
required, users have the option to
install Avocent's SwitchView
TM
IP
for access over IPto any KVM switch.
SMALL TO MID-SIZED DATA CENTRES
The Avocent rack mountable AutoView
®
series provides complete
access to rack-based servers. The AutoView
®
200 and 400 series
provide local and extended (150 metres) access for up to 24
multi-platform servers. The AutoView
®
2000 allows two local users
to access up to 16 servers via CAT 5 cable. It also features the
AVRIQ CAT 5 module that retains unique server names for simpler
re-configuration.
The AutoView
®
1000R and 2000R add the power of remote
access over IP to the AutoView series, and feature end to end
CAT 5 cabling. The AutoView 1000R and 2000R also feature
multi-level security with DES, 3DES and 128bit encryption, and
advanced administration tools for setting permissions and
access rights.
